DeWalt Miter Saw - DW704 & DW705 Armature Replacement (Part # 5140021-93)
https://www.mmtoolparts.com shows you how to replace the armature and fan in a DW704 or DW705 DeWalt Miter Saw. This armature is sold in a kit along with a bearing and replacement motor housing. If your saw is experiencing no power, a loss of power, or if you see sparks/smoke inside the motor housing...it's probably a good idea to inspect your armature for replacement.

INTRO: On this
episode of DeWalt Miter Saw Repairs we’ll be replacing the armature in a DW704
or 705.
While
the process for replacing the armature should be similar for all DeWalt Miter
Saws, you’ll want to look on top of the motor housing here to verify you order
the correct parts for your model and type #.
First,
we’ll talk about some symptoms of armature failure, then I’ll open up this 705
behind me and walk you thru a replacement.
DIAGNOSE: Are you
seeing sparks or smoke come out of the motor housing? That’s…not supposed to
happen. Or maybe your saw isn’t running at all?
Loss of
power, no power, sparks, smoke or a burning smell are all indicators that your
armature is ready for replacement.
There’s
a chance that it could just be your carbon brushes. But usually an issue with
brushes is caused by the armature in the first place, so we recommend replacing
those together. For more information on diagnosing bad brushes, refer to our
video titled “DeWalt Miter Saw – How and When to Replace Brushes.”
HOW-TO: Swapping
out the armature can seem complicated, but after I show you how you won’t have
any problem doing this yourself. If you think you’re up for the challenge, grab
your tools and follow me.
The
armature for these models comes as a kit which includes a new motor housing,
armature bearing and the armature.
